The Dream Author

By Amy

We writers have our dream agents, even our dream editors, but did you know they have dream clients?

I asked Editorial (Ass)istant to list the qualities of her dream author. Here's her wish list. I think we can all live up to those standards, eh?

Thank you Amy and Editorial (Ass)istant. This is a wonderful post and something every author should strive for.

I'm certain you're there, Lynne. Editors must adore you.

What Lynne said.

And why, oh why, isn't all that stuff common sense for all authors?

If we can conceive and write a book and see it published, we ought to be both appreciative and sensible enough to behave well!

Of course, I've heard tales of editors who don't exactly encourage or model dream behaviors...

Thank god not mine!

This is a wonderful post...thanks for pointing me in that direction. I think I have what it takes to be a wonderful author...once I write that book and get it sold, of course!

Thanks for the TPA list. A lot of it is just common business practice, not to say decency.
Why do writers in particular get antsy and touchy. Is it fear, insecurity or am I missing the point.

Therese, why exactly. Be nice, be professional, appreciate others' time. I'm sure your editor adores you as much as you adore her.

Mardougrrrl, get that book written and sold! If only it were that easy. Good luck and let us know the places your journey takes you. We love updates.

Hi, Reality! I think maybe the ONLY point that was lost on you was that sometimes we writers -- and I'm sure this applies to none of you reading this -- are emotionally attached to our writing and when it's criticized, it's as if our beloved child were attacked. We're not like that, not at all. We're all dream authors.
