Advance Review Copies

Posted by Lynne Griffin

I knew they were coming, still the feelings were intense when I opened the package. Cotton candy kind of feelings that leave you not knowing what to do. Should I read it. Should I go show it to someone. I was over the moon, yet nothing about my life changed when I opened my mail at ten in the morning on a Monday.

So I wrote a note, thanking my editor for all she did to secure great quotes and lobby for my marvelous cover. And I parked it on my desk so I could admire it.

Then it hit me. It was two years from the time the first word landed on the page to the date of its sale to St. Martin's. A full eighteen months in production, six more months until it sits on book store shelves. I needed to get back to work. I have a manuscript that needs revision.

Gosh, I can't wait to read this. And I'm sorry I missed your Grub seminar on Monday - you were sold out! Hope it went well and looking forward to a reprise.

btw, two years from start to sale is quite an accomplishment! You should be very proud.

That certainly sounds like fast work to me, Lynne, especially for a first novel. Congratulations, and April will be here before we know it.

Thanks, Leslie. I would've loved for you to join me for the character workshop. As writers, we need every tool possible for getting under our character's skin.

Check out the full day workshop I'm teaching at Grub on the all important first chapter of the novel. I'm looking forward to that one too.

Larramie,

Fast work perhaps on the words to sale aspect of writing, but each of my novels has been rolling around my head for years. As for SUMMER, yes, April will be here in a blink. Can't wait!

Lynne,
Congrats! The cover reminds me of a painting I always admire at a shopping mall in a different town. Every time we go to that mall we go in to see if my painting is there. My 4 year old loves to search for it. It has a window and a white curtain with a beach scene out front. We're moving so I may not see that painting for a long time... Maybe your book on my shelf will take its place!

Thanks, Shauna. My entire team loves it, as do I.

Tara,
I will remember you painting story. And do hope the book will offer you that and then some.

Thanks for your lovely comments.

Carleen,
My editor and I were able to secure two wonderful bookseller blurbs. And we're thrilled. Thanks for asking.

Patry,
I love it! The second novel is calling me, there's little I can to resist. Can't wait to read your next, you had me so intrigued on our visit.
